: The size the apartment is exceptional and probably the its best asset. It was perfect to host a large family with enough bedrooms, bathrooms, and a gathering space large enough. The AC/heating system seems to be recent and worked very well to keep us warm during cold evenings. the location is convenient, very close to amenities and subway. Lots of (very) hot water, which is nice when such a large group need to shower. Sheets and towells were fresh and clean. The hosts were very responsive. addressing all our requests, including last minute purchase of large pots and pans so we can cook for our larger group.
: The area is not the nicest area of town. Lots of homeless people on Rua dos Anjos, speaking loud at night, or with barking dogs. there is a social center at Independente station that may keep them around. it did not feel unsafe though. The apartment is not comfortable. the mattresses are cheap foam, the bathrooms lack towell racks, or even surfaces to put down toiletries. the furniture is minimal. No chair in a bedrooms to put down your clothes at night. The apartment is very run down with stained walls and floors, poor finishes, poor lighting in living area, moldy walls in humid areas of bathroom and kitchen. Most showers all have cheap shower curtains that do not even close properly, Showers did not drain well, and bathroom can easily flood as a result. The kitchen was equipped reasonably but, apart from a few large bowls, was missing serving platters and dishes. We had all our dinners at home and our cooks had to be creative to both cook and serve the meals. The coffee maker was too small for an apartment of that size, so be prepared to make several batches.
